Be present (phones down, hearts open)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When your child starts talking about their favourite video game, or your teen begins a story that takes approximately three lifetimes to finish, choose presence. Put down the phone, turn toward them, and listen. <a href=\"https:\/\/thetabletalkproject.org\/being-present-is-the-most-important-gift\/\">Presence<\/a> says: <em>you matter more than my notifications<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yes, it\u2019s not always convenient. But those moments where you give undivided attention? They\u2019re deposits into the \u201clove bank\u201d your kids will draw on for years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Use your words (and not just \u201cI love you\u201d)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI love you\u201d is powerful, but so are words like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cI\u2019m proud of you.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI love the way you think.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThanks for helping.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Words can build identity, encourage resilience, and remind our kids that they\u2019re seen for who they are &#8211; not just what they do. Around the dinner table, you can start a round of \u201cwhat I appreciate about you\u201d and watch faces light up. We do this every birthday and it is so encouraging as each person really thinks through what they love and appreciate about the birthday boy or girl. Small things, but powerful in building love that feels lived, not just spoken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final thought<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Love isn\u2019t complicated; it\u2019s shown in presence (AKA TIME), words, and rituals. When we choose to show love in these simple ways, our kids (and partners) don\u2019t just hear it, they <em>feel it<\/em>.
