Eat your vegetables.\u201d This was what I was told each night maybe not in words but certainly this is how the time was spent.  I\u2019m not proud of it, but early on I brought some of that into my own home. I am actually ashamed of this but it&#8217;s all I knew and maybe you did too. If that\u2019s you, I see you, <strong>and we can choose differently now<\/strong>. I am so glad I did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calm isn\u2019t about perfect behaviour or forced silence. Calm is <strong>safety<\/strong>. It is a table where every voice is welcome and nothing is off the table to talk about. No topic too big to discuss. The simplest way I know to build that is to <strong>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/thetabletalkproject.org\/at-the-table\/\">Back at the Table web app<\/a> once a week and follow its menu.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/thetabletalkproject.org\/at-the-table\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Table Talk Project<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the app gives you (and why it calms)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>short conversation menu<\/strong> to follow at dinner: <strong>Entree \u2192 Main \u2192 Dessert<\/strong>. When someone is speaking everyone needs to listen.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When the day\u2019s been big<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>If moods are wobbly:<\/strong> choose a lighter conversation starter, then skip straight to <strong>Dessert<\/strong>. Don&#8217;t forget to tap SUBMIT at the end of Dessert<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Week 2:<\/strong> Repeat with a new starter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Week 3:<\/strong> Keep it to one prompt and no debates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Week 4:<\/strong> Same again, then book next month\u2019s dates inside the  Web app.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Small and steady. Calm is a culture you practise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A personal word<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I carried fear to the table as a kid, and for a while, I passed it on. That\u2019s hard to admit. The first time we used <strong>Back at the Table<\/strong>, it wasn\u2019t dramatic it wasn&#8217;t meant to be. It was just about coming together and connecting. It was just\u2026 <strong>safe<\/strong>. The second week, someone else led. The third, someone shared something hard and we didn\u2019t fix it, we just listened. That\u2019s calm. Not perfect. <strong>Safe.<\/strong> Our kids deserve memories like that and not what I grew up with. We can rewrite the story, one calm table at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>**A final word**<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look I get it life can be so crazy and everyone comes to the table with their stuff with them from the day. I am a parent and sometimes even what I am asking you to do doesn&#8217;t work as best as we would want. But that is ok.
